Is there any type of insomnia that is untreatable?

There is a type of insomnia called fatal familial insomnia which cannot be treated. Unfortunately a lot of people think they have this because they feel their insomnia is so unique that they’re the 1% that can’t be treated.

Fatal familial insomnia is where you stop sleeping and within a few weeks you would either be incredibly sick or dead. As far as we know it’s a genetic abnormality so it’s not the same as insomnia but it shares the name.

It’s a genetic abnormality that we only know of in a few families in the entire world. It is incredibly rare and I have never come across anyone with it and I’ve treated over 10,000 patients.
